Appearance
  • Body is pinkish-red, fading to a lighter belly
  • Sides have undulating yellow lines
  • Yellow eye
  • Rear of anal fin pointed
  • Pectoral fins pale yellow
  • Back edge of tail trimmed in black
  • No dark spot on sides in adults
Habitat
Common offshore over rocky ledges in very deep water. Most common in south Florida.
Behavior
Spawn late spring through summer. Feed on fishes and crustaceans.
